Mandrake Linux 9.0 Install Problems - 25/12/2002 14:07

Hello,
I am trying to boot a freshly installed computer with Mandrake Linux 9 and it boots until it says "Finding Module Dependencies". It just hangs there forever and won't advance any farther. It doesn't even display the green OK in brackets.
My hardware is as follows:
ASUS A7N266-VM Motherboard
I am using all the onboard features of the board (sound, video, ethernet, usb) I also took out my GeForce 4 MX420 before installation to make sure there were no problems. The hard drives in the system have had linux before (a long time ago) and have been since formatted. I have also tried reinstalling Mandrake about 10 times and get the same error. If anyone can help me that would be awesome, if not, then I guess I will go back to Win2K.
Remember: I have no PCI or AGP cards installed in the system right now.

Thanks in advance,
Justin

nForce support is a bit flaky (or non-existent) in most Linux distros at the moment. I'm not sure about Mandrake 9 specifically, but you will probably have to compile your own drivers or take the easy route and just install separate graphics, sound and network cards.

I recently loaded Mandrake 9.0 on both my girlfriends and my computers with no issues. Her's is an HP while mine is home built. I am using a ASUS A7M266. I have the on board sound disabled. I am using a Elsa Gladiac 920 Ge3 card, a CL Soundblaster Live 5.1 card, and an ethernet card. My mouse is a usb mouse. Maybe you should try disabling your onboard stuff and load up your cards?

I agree. I installed Mandrake successfully only after putting the graphics driver to default kind of settings. You change them back after the install.
