Atleast that's what IBM's webpage says:

I went to Hitachi's website. It's now called the Hitachi Travelstar.

Yeah. IBM sold off their entire hard disk division to Hitachi last year. From what I remember Hitachi paid around $2 billion for it. It is still partially owned by IBM but Hitachi have to slowly buy the entire thing over the next 3 years.

Yeah. IBM sold off their entire hard disk division to Hitachi last year.

So is that good or bad for the "Travelstar" brand, seeing as it is the de-facto hard drive of choice for yer empeg - waits for conflicting barrage

I quite liked the "Deskstar" range too - turns & runs for cover

Greetings!

They bought them for the pixie dust technology. The 80s (and higher) are still in the works. As far as I can tell, it is just like dealing with IBM at the moment. But I suspect that it did slow down the delivery dates a bit. The actual drives look to be the same.
