ODB2 Reader - $39.99 - 26/06/2003 12:08

Maybe this deal will jump-start all those ODB2 projects? For $40, it wouldn't be too much of a shame to tear it apart looking for a serial output.

Use coupon code 061-723-858 to get free shipping until 7/1/03.

Does that output to RS-232 serial? I don't see that as an option on that device.

I don't know. My thought is that it might be available somewhere on the motherboard of the thing.

Look at www.elektor-electronics.co.uk and look for the ODB2 project (November 2002 to be precise), you can get the chip and pcb from them and the other components are dead easy to source. I'd build one myself, except the fact that I have absolutely no use for it.

If there's nothing by then which he can FAQ them on, what's the point?

Okay then, it looks like the chip used in the elektor article is actually from these guys. You can buy a chip or whole board to suit all the possible standards. You can even purchase an attractive box to house it all in. The protocol seems quite simple, maybe I should get on and give it a go with the g/f's car.

I think the chip is actually from Elm Electronics, with ScanTool as a reseller/packager. Also see this thread.
