Just cant seem to find a certain version of song.. - 06/07/2003 14:41

A local radio station in PA played an all female vocals version of "Big Yellow Taxi". It was very new and sounded like it was Sheryl Crow. I called them up when I heard it and they denied playing it (i dont know if it was a bootleg or what) ... Has anyone else heard a relativly new version of "Big Yellow Taxi" with ALL female vocals on the radio???

The worst part is, all I can find on the web is that Joni Mitchell did it orignally a long time ago, and then Amy Grant redid it a few years ago. Then a group of people played it live at Lillith Fair. I cannot, for the life of me, find the newest all female vocal version. The people at the radio station were trying to tell me that it was the counting crows version. It was DEFINITLY NOT!!!

I certainly appreciate that you looked and I will use that webpage as a future resource, but no, I still can't find the newest version of it

I wonder if it's not ever gonna come out and it was just a live bootleg that they played on the station???

Oh well

Thanks just the same though...

Hey Rezolution (fellow NY area empegger). You probably know, but bootleggers have TONS of info on the web about the stuff they've recorded. A search for "Big Yellow Taxi Bootleg" on Google might help. Also, does the radio station have a website? What, was it B104 or something? Good ol' PA stations.

Kazaa turns up some matches for a version of Big Yellow Taxi that was done at the end of Lilith Fair(e?) in 98 or 99 if you search for "big yellow taxi live" -- might be what you heard?

Oops -- my bad -- you mentioned that version ... sorry

The only new one I've heard recently was the one Vanessa Carlton sings. At least, I think so. I'm painfully out of the new music loop, but when you go in stores and restaurants sometimes you hear it anyhow...

It's Counting Crows w/ Vanessa Carlton, although she does very little in the song. She was probably included because these days she's a bigger name than the band.

Of course, this thread goes along the lines of the cover thread. The original is still the best, and has not been (nor likely will be) bettered.

Yeah, it was B104. After I sent an email to them, I called the DJ up. He was like, OH YOUR THE GUY THAT SENT THE EMAIL! Then he was like, YEAH, YOU ALMOST GOT ME FIRED!!! But he wouldn't tell me where he got the song or who sang it. I am 99% sure it was Sheryl Crow. The guy was being a total jerk about it. Like it's my fault that he played a bootleg version on the air...

It's definitly not the Counting Crows / Vanessa version. This song is ENTIRELY female. It sounds very very very much like Sheryl Crow. It has to be a bootleg or something. I read somewhere that Sheryl Crow has a song on the new counting crows album. She must have covered it. I think it sounds awesome and if I ever get my hands on it, I'll fly you a copy and you can let me know if you think it's better than the original or not...

I was responding to dbrashear in that post (though I now see that he probably knew who it was).

I just wanted to offer my opinion of the recent covers of that song

See how it says "16 Big Yellow Taxi (in ensemble)"
I got the version, but the (in ensemble) means that like 5 different people are singing it. She has a small part in the song. I am looking for the version where she does the whole song. I know it exists because I heard it (and so did my girlfriend), so I know I'm not crazy

I appreciate that you (and other people) are taking the time to look though I have spent about two weeks on this (off and on) maybe an hour or so a day and I'm getting really frustrated

No luck on Kazaa or BitTorrent, but I don't think you always get a good search on Kazaa
