I have many times considered changing careers and becoming a truck driver. I'd think the Empeg would be quite popular among truck drivers...

Aw heck, I love Installshield, at least the version I'm using. Nah, it's corporate politics and middle management meddling that make one want to switch careers.

Hah. I've thought about it too. Add the fact that I *LOVE* driving.. (My poor Mini has ~48k miles on it. ONly had it a YEAR!)

The reason I'm asking is cuz I gotta get a 1200lb, 27-foot long Railroad Semaphore from Oregon down to Atlanta. And have no idea where to start.

Would be appropriate to ship it by rail.

Yup, one would think so, eh?
I'm a big rail fanatic, and immediately went to get a quote from the main carriers..

It was average ~$6000. The trucking comanpes want between $600 and $1500. Go figure. A railroad fixture, about ~100 years old, having to be shipped by truck.. Sad. :/

For a museum? Just curious, I know someone at BNSF was doing something where they were willing to give signals to museums and such at some point.

Actually, would Amtrak Express handle it?

They probably would, but would either be on-par for all the other RR's, or even more expensive. Mostly because they use the same track and goes thru the same companies and regions that a normal freight carrier would.

I actually found a company that will take it; however, they say it's got to be "protected". How the heck would I "protect" something like that; wrap it up in blankets?
