Sure, we all knew it was coming for quite some time now, but I'm surprised that no one pointed out that Warren died yesterday.

I didn't hear about it until your post. He was a great one. I never saw in on CNN either, strange.

I had kind of a peaceful reaction when I heard the news this morning, probably because of the volume of tears I spent last year when I found out.

And I wasn't sure how to react to the fact that his new album was the #1 bestseller (at least when I went online to buy it) from Amazon.com

I saw his auto-documentary on VH1 just tonight. It was really interesting and equally as sad.

but I'm surprised that no one pointed out that Warren died yesterday.

For reasons that I don't understand, I somehow put Warren in a box with a couple of other gents, Randy Newman and Tom Waits, who I cherish and recognize as talents, but who I rarely listen to....and I don't wind up following new material as much.

I have to say, though, that I was impressed with Zevon's "don't cry for me...I had a good time" public attitude toward impending death. Too bad, though. Farking cigarettes.

I thought it was asbestos that caused the disease?

Quick check: yes, it was mesothelioma caused by the inhalation of asbestos dust.

Farking asbestos.

Ahhh, mesothelioma. I wasn't paying attention. Years ago, when I actually had to learn some of this in epidemiology coursework, it was a causation given: "If you find a case of mesothelioma, you have found a case of asbestos exposure" . Studies could identify no other cause.

That may well still be the case, tho' a quick Google turns up some interested parties talking about synergistic effects -- in essence that smoking increases the likelihood of mesothelioma in asbestos-exposed populations/individuals.

Farking asbestos, farking tobacco.
