Proxy desktop?

Proxy desktop? - 27/10/2003 00:19

Anyone know that Proxy Desktop is, why it's attacked to my explorer.exe processes, and why it's crashing?

I have a feeling this is also causing the random explorer.exe taking all the CPU time issue I see on this machine. Virus scans are clean, as are spyware scans. Startup is reduced to pretty minimal things, the ATI control Panal, my Virtual CD daemon, and my sound driver control panal. Internet Explorer has no ActiveX plugins beyond the Windows Update one, since IE has never hit a site beyond that one on this machine.

A brief search of Gooogle suggests that the "Proxy Desktop" is a standard part of Windows, but the crash/hang you're seeing is caused by a dodgy Windows Explorer extension.

Any ideas on how I can even see what explorer extensions are installed? When I did a google search, I wasn't finding many ideas for solving it, just simply many people having problems with it coming up as a task to end when shutting down.

I guess if I can't find much, it will be time to test my Windows XP SP1+Security slipstream CD. I'm just discusted that I can't even keep an install of Windows XP purley for games up for more then 8-9 months with out it degrading.

HijackThis works pretty well.
