Wallets for geeks - 12/11/2003 06:08

Ok, so my ten year old wallet is practically dead and I need a new one.

My current one is soft leather with a change compartment in one half, with a zip around three sides. The inner parts are cardboard/cloth and are currently dropping to bits, hence the need for a replacement.

These are the essential requirements, but otherwise I am interested in something cool:

1) Must be folding (I'm a bloke!)
2) Must hold at least four plastic cards (no ID window required)
3) Secure compartment for a good amount of coinage
4) Reliable closure mechanism

Any ideas? The duct tape wallet doesn't have room for change so that's out! Pockets are for *stuff* not coins!

Cheers,

Gareth

My wife got me a DKNY wallet last year (or maybe the one before) that folds, has two pockets for notes, a flip up section with 6 credit card holders and a photograph holder, another two pockets which are credit card sized, and a button down coin pocket.

Just counted, mine holds 21 cards comfortably - although I never carry money in it, which makes more space.

Very nice and comfy - and it comes in black with minimalist chrome DKNY badge on inner corner.

Think it came from Harvey Nichols, or Jenners.

Harvey Nichols

Ooh, get you!

Seriously, my wallet has bought from River Island nearly 5 years ago, and it's still going strong. Before that I never had a wallet. I simply kept my Switch card in my back pocket.

My previous one was from a dodgy shop in Greece and it lasted 5 years. It was still going strong when replaced, although you could almost read the embossed numbers on cards through it.

I've got a Ben Sherman one. It was a birthday present a couple of years back from a friend.
It holds about 10 cards, folds, has a couple of pockets, zipped bit for change and is velcro closed. Only problem is that the velcro closure isn't too brilliant when you've got loads of loose change or cards as it makes the wallet very fat and hard to close.
It's made out of some sort of fine weave nylon though so you might not like the material.
