Did you check out his diary? Absolutely riveting.

I doubt it is the same guy. That video has been passed around quite a bit already. Besides, since the video game is in Japanese, it is likely not the work of an American.

I have a new hero.

That's frickin amazing.

I didn't know you could warp from the warp screen.

Hey, Japanese can go to American schools, too. No, actually, I didn't think it was the same person, either.

His name is Park. Certainly not Japanese, but I can believe that Korea gets Japanese games.

Re: Super Mario 3 beaten in 11 minutes, and 99 lives. - 02/12/2003 18:11

Yeah - he's most likely Korean, judging by the only other thing in his web directory - not that that matters. I was just making the point that he doesn't have to be American. Actually, when I was back in the cs department at UT, I was in the minority as an American. The majority of the students were Asian - mostly Indian.

Any Megaman 2 players out there? Although not as easy to watch as the mario video because its not a normal video file (and not as short because you cant warp from level 1 to level 8, you actually have to play it all), you can follow the directions in the first post of this thread to see some more amazing nes playing. If you've ever played this game before, I highly recomend watching this. Pay attention to how fast he does things like switching weapons just to save those extra seconds. The only times he gets hurt is when getting hurt is when it will help him such as running into an enemy so that he can walk on the spikes. I used to think I was good at this game and could beat it fairly quickly until I watched this.

That's a pretty cool video as well. When I have the time, I want to watch the whole thing. I love seeing the mastery of video games. I try really hard at a few games, and get pretty good at them, but I know I can't get close to people like this. Not that I would necessarily want to, since I can't imagine how long it took to get that good.

One question for you guys: I know I found a video of some Asian guy (don't know what nationality) playing an arcade game. It was some game that involved the slapping of buttons to a tune that played on the screen, similar to those DDR games. I'm not sure if I saw it on here or not...

Oh, and one more thing. Hearing all this old school NES music just makes me want to suggest this band to you guys even more. If you are at all a fan of old school video game music, you have to check out the Minibosses. My friend and I went to see them live, and they are seriously kick-ass.

I'll second the Minibosses recommendation. They kick ass.

And, while we're on the subject, I'd recommend Game Over too.

I'm pretty sure the dance button arcade game was on here. Can't remember what it was called but the guy looked possessed going that fast!

It was some kind of music game.

Yeah I know It was like DDR but with you hitting buttons instead. I'll see if I can find it...

Mega Man 2 and 3 (in that order) are my two favorite NES games, with Super Mario 3 right behind. No time to watch the whole video right now, but thanks much for the link.

I knew I must have saved it on my machine, and I found it. Hot Damn! I'd upload it here, but it's kind of large (15MB). My FTP's acting up, too, so I can't put it on my own sites. However, I can give you the file name if it helps:

There has been increasing talk that this was a fake, including hidden saves and loads edited together and the thing being run on an emulator at 1/30th speed. Here is a translated version of the supposed creator's web page describing the forgery: http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/urltrurl?lp=ja_en&url=http://soramimi.egoism.jp/emu.htm

Take it with a grain of salt.

I can't understand a word he's saying. I assume it's because English is not his primary language.
*edit*
scratch that, I noticed it was a babelfish translation. I still can't read it...

You know, even if it's a fake, I don't really care. What I'm impressed with are the things he does inside the levels. If those are faked, then I'm impressed at that, too!

Do you really mean 1/30th speed? Wouldn't that mean that it really took 5 and a half hours?

No joke. Four of us sat around my computer watching the Mega Man 2 game. It made us angry.

In case people did not dig further into this, I did, and here are some more quality speed runs.

It's worth reading their "Why and How" FAQ to understand that you are not watching true Nintendo genius, but carefully choreographed, emulator assisted, recorded in parts with thousands of retries, bug abusing, art pieces crafted by, well, Nintendo geniuses... who have some serious style.

Super Mario 64 in 16 minutes. Can you fathom those jumps?

Super Mario World in 15 minutes. One word: juggling.

And one that grows old quick, but is pretty stunning, Arkanoid without dropping a ball, keeping three in play in most levels.

I'm so glad I realized Google Video would have these. Sure beats trying to run the corrupt/odd-codec "mosmb3.wmv" I fought to download two years ago which has been sitting on my hard drive ever since.
