I'm not certain that this would result in a less-electable candidate than the current crop.

Sounds like this could easily result in a better candidate than the losers out there now, this obviously depends on the number of `real' candidates vs. the number of fame-seekers
Granted, I'm not an american, so I don't care enough to study the candidates more than skin-deep.
