Where I went to school (in the 814 area code), 867-5309 was taken out of the phone number pool due to constant prank phone calls asking for Jenny. I cannot imagine why anyone would actually want this number, unless they enjoy being woken up at odd hours of the night by drunk college students who just came home from 80's night at the Shandygaff. The fact that anyone would want it in NEW YORK FREAKING CITY is even more ridiculous.

Oh, and I doubt anyone seriously paid the amount listed for it. This is like those bogus bids for entire towns and so-forth that turn out to be from pirated accounts.

It might not be a bad number for advertising/marketing. I don't know if there's a workable angle, but I could see having a number that people called without any prodding might be useful.

You laugh but I'd bet they'd turn quite a few prank calls into paying customers . . .

In my home town, if you call that number the song plays
