local lan party - 05/05/2004 15:17

we (lancamp.com) recently had a large lan party in a warehouse in Phoenix. a local newspaper attended and wrote this article about it.
its kind of an interesting read, being written by someone that is not a gamer.

I immediately take a dislike to the way the paper presents the article, showing a photo of one of the gamers with a real weapon. Do they really want to be evoking the Columbine imagery? How nuts can they be?

I'm going to see if I can get past it enough to read the rest of the article...

I'd be interested in seeing some real statistics comparing the following:

- What percentage of people in the general public are gun enthusiasts?
vs.
- What percentage of people in the hardcore gaming community are gun enthusiasts?

Since the title of the piece is "War Games" and it deals primarily with how Battlefield 1942 compares to real life, I find the pictures appropriate. Remember, not everyone thinks that owning or shooting guns is a bad thing.

Dredging up this old thread to post an advert. If you're a gamer in the Phoenix area (or elsewhere. We have people coming from all over) you might be interested in DesertBash 4.0. We have some big sponsors lined up this year. Intel, Dell, Vivendi and Matrix Orbital to name a few.

Your image is broken. Apparently I have to be a registered user of that board to see the image.

Making a new post in here to announce DesertBash 6.0. Last year for 5.0 we were fortunate enough to get Intel on-board enough to provide us a home. We were able to host our event at Intel's Chandler AZ campus. We have secured the same location this year.

Last year we were able to raise $4,000 that we donated, with a matching donation by Intel, to United Way.

See http://www.desertbash.com and http://www.lancamp.com for more details.
