S-Video splitter?

S-Video splitter? - 25/05/2004 08:00

Is there such a thing as a splitter for S-Video? On my old TV (which didn't have a S-Video inputI) I used to have the Tivo's S-Video output to my DVC-150 (video capture) and then out to my computer. And I had the video cable from the TIVO to the TV. However, my new TV has S-Video input. But the Tivo has only one S-Video output. Do they make a splitter so I can have the S-Video feed to both?

I'm pretty sure that there's no such thing as a passive S-Video splitter. You'll have to get a powered splitter, which is going to be much more than the $10 Y-cable you were hoping for.

Yes there are S-Video splitter cables. You will degrade the signal strength substantially though. You can buy powered splitters that will do what you want withou the loss, though (for example: http://www.vpi.us/vsplt-sv.html -- i can't vouch for that, just one i found on google). I use an unamplified y-split cable between my gamecube + projector + computer and it's not too bad, but your mileage may vary. I'll try to find the place where I ordered that cable from, but I suspect you can google for s-video y-split cable and come up with some matches.

Oops. My bad. I didn't think to search for "s-video y-cable", despite using those terms in my post.
