eBay auctions suck - 25/08/2004 02:00

Ok.. so here's the deal, I was bidding for an empeg on eBay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5715085091

In the listing it says "reserve price of $600" but it never said "reserve not met" in the ebay part of the listing. I bid and won the auction.. or atleast eBay thinks I won the auction.

After getting back from lunch to see that I won, I emailed the guy about shipping info, and did some more searching..
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5716779578

the guy was selling the item again with a reserve price this time.. (now it's sold buy-it-now)

I contacted ebay, but of course they don't respond to things like this. It now lists the original auction as unpaid in my account, and the the idiot sold the unit.

I could just leave some nasty feedback, but whatever.

What an ass if he screwed up setting up the auction he had ten days to cancel it. Did the jerk even email you ?

At least you left the bad feedback. I think many people don't for fear of retaliation.

I phear no eBayer

the guy emailed me claiming he wasn't going to sell to me, because he had a reserve price. has ignored my emails since then

I marked as paid, and left bad feedback.. it irks me that the guy can't even fix the auction.

I saw that EMPEG too and was suprised that it was listed again. Ebay is a bit to lax in enforcing its own rules. Well I glad you left negative feeedback, they deserve it.

I love it:

Quote:
A reserve price of $600 exists on this auction.
I DO NOT have to sell unless the bid equals or surpasses the price of $600.

on the second auction. No not on that one but you DID on the first, what an idiot.

Well, if it is any consolation, I would be pretty wary about buying from this guy with his current feedback.

You know what's worse? Check out the negative feedback on this page. Okay, honest mistake.

Let me know if this looks differently to you, but it sure seems that the guy then bid on auctions from that user simply to leave feedback like this. I don't know, maybe I'm reading into it too much, but the second user only has 3 negative feedbacks, 2 of which are from this guy we're talking about. Plus, that feedback is unnecessarily harsh.

There's nothing wrong with that eBay auction. I've never heard of an auction getting messed up the way you describe. This looks like a very simple case of Back-Woodsman. Now, not to get people in a huff, but look at the seller's location. That would be enough said..

Seriously though... This was NOT a reserve auction. The seller just wrote that the item had a reserve in the description. This doesn't count.. That was his own mental reserve, not entered into the eBay listing form. According to eBay rules, if the item sells, then it sells. You can't write a disclaimer in the description to put a false reserve on it.

Filing a negative is only part of what you should do. Now you should also file a formal complaint with eBay. If you go to the auction page you should find a BUYER's link that takes you to info on how to do this. Someone only needs a few strikes like this to get their account suspended or cancelled.

If the seller wanted a reserve he should have input a reserve value into eBay - which costs extra $$ if it's not met and the item doesn't sell. ANd if he wanted people to know his reserve then he should just have started the auction at $600. That's how it works. The only purpose of a "hidden" reserve is to get people into a bidding frenzy and build hits and re-visits for the auction.

yep.. I don't understand why people even bother with hidden reserve prices.. it's just silly.

this guy jerked me out of a good deal, you're right, by eBay rules, I should have gotten it.. but the guy is a moron. eBay has done nothing about it (even after 2 complaint emails).

(not that I'm the grammar or spelling king.. but how the hell do you start a sentance who's proper noun starts with a lower case letter?)

I know a guy who works for ebay... goes through auctions and deletes auctions that violate ebays rules. I don't know if he can help you but it's worth a try. Contact AIM user eBayBench. I believe he usually works 9-5 MST.

With a lower case letter? That's what I'd do, anyway. I see you chose a different route, though, by making *all* sentences start with a lower case letter, to make it blend in.

BTW, there is no "eh?" in sentence.
