Best Way to attach a PDA mount to a dashboard? - 03/01/2005 17:48

I just bought this this PDA mount and was looking to use the suction cup windshield mount on the dashboard instead of the window. What is the best way to mount it onto the dashboard without damaging the dashboard in the future when I remove it?

Has to be a Brodit ProClip. I have one for the PDA in the Smart, my Boss has one in his Vectra, they are worth the money if they do them for your car, way way way better than suction cup solutions.

Sorry to rain on your parade.

I don't know of anything that, won't over the long term, leave a noticable spot. Just convering an area will create a clean unfaded spot that will stand out. So that only leaves attaching it to places that can't be seen unless looked for.

The under side of the dash comes to mind. See the attachment for a very simplified concept. The red part would be screwed to the bottom of the dash. The green is the base of the pda mount you mentioned. Finding a suitable location depends on the auto.

Another way is to screw through any carpeted area. Carpet more or less self heals when the screws are removed.

The answer, of course, is not to mount it on the dashboard. I use this less-than-ideal, universal gizmo with the ideal price: FREE w/any GPS purchase!

When I needed to install the mount for my pda, I made a mirrored copy of my telephone mount. Luckily I had access to metalworking tools...

Attached is a picture of how it looks in my car.
