You'd think that these people would be smart enough to run their public displays as secondary screens, if not to avoid people seeing BSODs, then so that they can administer/use the system without interfering with the public display. I mean, that big screen is bound to be a hundred thousand dollars, at least. You'd think that they could splurge for an additional video card and monitor for about $500.

Cool link!

On a slightly related note, when I was in new york a few years back, I went for a walkabout and ended up somewhere around the village (I think!), there was a rather large numerical sign on the side of one of the buildings (showing an ever increasing number), anybody know what this is? Was it the third world debt or something? It'd be good to find out, because it still bugs me to this day!

Thanks.

It might be the National Debt Clock you are thinking about...

National Debt Clock:

It's no longer there.

Did it run out of numbers?

I've heard two different stories, that the fact that the national debt lessened for a while confused people and that the building it was on was torn down. I haven't been to Manhattan in ages, so I don't know. Maybe Heather can comment.

Humn, don't think it was that, it didn't have any indication as to what it was, no writing, was simply just a large increasing number which we thought was rather odd, this was in december 2001.

Wish we had taken a photo of it or asked what it was at the time, I've searched quite a lot and haven't managed to find it on the web, and I don't think I imagined it either!
