CAC Card Readers and Biometrics

CAC Card Readers and Biometrics - 25/01/2005 17:14

Anyone here have any knowledge of integrating Biometrics and/or CAC card readers (or smart cards, more generically) into web projects and Oracle Forms? I need to evaluate the cost of moving forward with each option for one of our customers, so if anyone with experience could point me in the right direction I'd greatly appreciate it. I've never worked with either technology.

i cant offer anything very useful. here at work, we do have CAC readers installed. my ID doesnt have the info on it, so i havent used it much. the biggest gripe seems to be leaving it in the reader. some of our intranet and internet sites do ask for it to be inserted, but if you hit cancel it reverts back to user/pass authentication.

For a web project, java cards might be easiest, but the cards might be too expensive. The usual sun java sites should have more info.

FYI, It's a DOD application, so everyone using it will have a CAC card (or so the theory goes). That makes it not a question of what type of technology, but whether or not to implement it. The client is interested in BOTH biometrics and CAC cards.

heh
i do have my DOD card, just no CAC info on it. one other thing to note about leaving it in the reader. it makes it hard to get back on site with your credentials on site ahead of you.
