WinXPsp2: "Your system may be at risk.." - 05/02/2005 14:24

Okay, how do I get rid of that incessantly annoying little yellow popup bubble after each boot, that warns me that "my system may be at risk" because I have not given Microsoft permission to anonymously snoop around it whenever they wish to (aka. "security center -- automatic updates").

Reboot Linux...

That would do it...

But, Start->Settings->Control Panel->Security Center will get you to where the change needs to be made. You can turn off the warnings by going to the "Change the way security center alerts me" and unchecking the offending item.

Ahh.. thank-you muchly, Paul!

That seems to have done the trick.

The copy of WinXP-Pro-SP2 I have here was obtained in a barter deal, for next-to-nothing from me. Though I would never pay actual money for such rubbish, in this case I wanted it on one quad-boot machine for the sole purpose of running Adobe Photoshop-CS.

The Gimp doesn't have proper colour management yet, so Photoshop/WinXP are the best bet for my photography habit at present. I actually did lay out the bucks for Photoshop-CS --> US$300 special offer.

Cheers

If it was saying that because you lacked firewall software or AntiVirus software, you can just click on the troubleshooting button, and tell it not to monitor that item because you have another solution that you are administrating yourself.

EDIT: Or Paul's way works better.
