XP repair problems - 07/04/2005 10:01

My dad's laptop had error messages and a BSOD came up everytime windows loaded (the desktop appeared for a second before the BSOD).

So I thought I'd just install XP again with the OS CD that came with the laptop and select to repair the files. Trouble is, it gets to the final stage (registering components?) and with 12 mins to go I get this popup...

"Unregmp2.exe - entry point non found.

The procedure entry point GetIUMS could not be located in the dynamic link library MSDART.dll"

I get click 'ok' but it just reappears.

Any ideas as to what this could be? I'd like to avoid wiping the drive totally.

Thanks

I was bored so I decided to have a Google at this

This is apparently caused by the msdart.dll file in the System32 folder being an outdated version. Try searching the computer for a newer version; I found a backup in C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386 while others had it in a dllcache folder.

Failing that, the file can also apparently be downloaded from http://www.dll-files.com/
