renting fancy strobe lights? - 26/04/2005 21:18
Some friends of mine have a swing dancing performance team. They're taking headshots for their web site with a point-and-shoot and have no action photos worth beans. Naturally, I think I can do better for them, so I'm trying to talk them into coughing up the $60 or so that it would cost to rent real strobes with umbrella reflectors and associated bells and whistles.
Anybody here ever worked with this kind of lighting gear? The local rental place a variety of strobes to choose from, but they generally assume you know what you're doing. Any gotchas I should be aware of? Any gear on that list jump out as particularly good or bad for my application (which is going to require relatively fast recharge times, so I can shoot dancers in motion, but which isn't going to need particularly easy set up or tear down)?
