2-empeg wedding

2-empeg wedding - 13/06/2005 10:16

Finally got some pics from the wedding - only took a month! Anyway, it was a 2-empeg wedding, as the wedding chamber at the Hotel Grand in Amsterdam (former city hall, still with the old art-deco weding chamber) only had a ghettoblaster for music, so we had an empeg (of course in a MDF dock!) playing the wedding music through a couple of Genelec active monitors and a subwoofer. Unfortunately I don't seem to have any pics of the empeg in the wedding chamber. The second empeg was of course in the escape car, and also had all the wedding music on it, as a backup...

Any marriage that begins with two empegs is sure to bring eternal happiness. Congrats!

Seems to be a trend among wedding pics posted on the bbs. I guess geeks do win in the end.

Congratulations!

Hope the new bride is as steadfast as the empegs! The Morgan, on the other hand, might be a little temperamental... (j/k!)

Many, many happy years and best wishes to the new couple!

Thanks to everybody! Have to say that out of the triplet of (Morgan, Bride, Empegs) it is actually one of the empegs that has proven most temperamental. Guess I should have another look at the IDE header...

Wow! Looks like a fun party weekend (week, month, .. ??)!

Were there many visitors from her side of the ocean, or are they all just waiting for you two to show up in late June / eary July?

cheers

What a touching photo.....

Him: (arch, sly) "Hah! I got her!"

Her: (feigned distress and innocence) "Gulp! Him???"

You just may have made my week very cheery prematurely. Very, very nice. Congratulations!

Actually, we were really lucky in getting a great registrar (the civil servant that performs the ceremony - all weddings here are civil weddings, as that is the only thing that counts; if you want a religious ceremony, you can have one as well, but that doesn't count in any legal way) that managed to combine solemnity and humor. The pic is taken when she was talking about the everyday things in a marriage, and was saying something like "and she might nag at times", so the actual caption is "No, *he* might" "No, *she*"

Congrats Julf,

That marriage thing is interesting, has it always been like that? (ie the civil ceremony being the only legally binding one)

That's the same as in the UK, isn't it?

IIRC in the UK priests (in a wide sense of the word) can, and typically do, become Licensed Persons for the recording of marriages, whereupon no other officials are involved (except the ones the priests themselves send the paperwork off to). They do keep changing the rules on this, though: not so long ago, a marriage register was attached to a Licensed Place, not a Licensed Person.

Currently, as I understand the situation in the UK, the Licensed Person can still only operate in a Licensed Place. The terms for licensing wedding venues include rules such as "no alcohol to be served within N feet within H hours before the ceremony", etc.

There is, however, talk of changing the law further, so that the Place would become at the discretion of the Person.

Now why the heck wasn't a Land Rover used as the wedding car? What's this thing with lots of chrome and shiny paint???

Anyway, I can't help with wedding photos but I have plenty of photos of cats!

I guess so, the Dutch have always (well, at least in modern times) been very adamant about separation of church and state (basically because of not wanting to pich the "official" one/ones)

Well, a number of my friends had offered to drive us in the Pink Panther , but in any case the car was a formality, as most wedding transportation was by water. A DUKW would have been perfect...

Elaine's immediate family (Dad, 2 sisters and 2 brothers), one aunt and dozen or so friends from the US. Bunch of people from all over from the Tokyo days. But all 35 cousins and rest of the family have to wait for the July 1 party in NJ

That's hysterical! You two make a great couple. Many congratulations (from her side of town, here in NJ).
