Doom..... teh movie? [sic]

Doom..... teh movie? [sic] - 04/10/2005 02:06

Stuck at the merge into the Lincoln tunnel on 37th street in NYC, I look hopelessly out the window, only to see a poster baring the familiar logo of Doom. Most horrifying, however, were the numbers inscribed below. "10/21/05"

Um..... they really made a movie about Doom? Will this rank right up there with Mortal Kombat (all of them), Wing Commander, and, um, the Super Mario Super Show? Yes, the movies of Final Fantasy and Toomb Raider, though not noteworthy, outclass the previous list.

(honestly, my dog is whining his throat out which prevented me from thinking of more sad sad movies, so I turned to wikipedia for inspiration. brilliant, as always.)

And it stars Dwayne Johnson ("The Rock") - who looks in fact quite similar to your avatar, thought not as cracker-white.

You did notice your avatar was displaying the "People's Eyebrow" right?

Yeah, I saw a trailer for it before Serenity. Apparently there is a section of the movie, perhaps a long section from what it looks like, where you are seeing through the eyes of one of the characters, with only his weapon appearing at the bottom of the screen as he is walking around dark twisty industrial corridors. I found it extremely humorous. Yeah, it's going to suck, but I may have to rent or otherwise *cough* obtain it strictly for humor value.

Also saw the ads for Narnia and Harry Potter. Both look excellent.

Yah, I saw that traiolr too. At first I was leaning over to tell my wife this was the stupidest thing I'd ever heard (I mean, the plot for Doom isn't really anything to write home about), but I have to say that seeing some of the fp shots and the one with the chainsaw it does look like there will be some humor value and the writers were somewhat familiar with the game. Not that it will be good, but that it might be worth watching for, as you say, the humor value.

Hmmm.... You saw the trailer for Doom (which you think will probably suck) before Serenity... If the movie (Serenity) is anything like the cancelled TV show, then if your predictions are correct, it seems like the perfect movie to attach the trailer to.

Yeah, this movie has been in the making for some time now. I'm suprised it hasn't been mentioned here yet.

At first it wasn't going to be set on mars, and the catastrophic event was going to be a rogue virus. That sure ticked off some geeks.

Frankly, I don't think it's going to suck nearly as much as other video game movies. I think it'll be on par with most action-horror films these days. That's not to say that this is an Academy Award-winning genre, but it could be fun. And I must admit that the first-person view, which I thought sounded stupid, looks like it could at least be an interesting experiment. Nobody here got excited when they saw the chainsaw?

Um, is that like the People's Republic of China or the People's Choice Awards?

I always thought it was the "Should I have been amused by that? Eyebrow".

No, it's the Rock's "People's Eyebrow" without question. The only thing that's missing is the head's supposed to be tilted a little bit.

You can now add Halo to that list, although I'm inclined to think that with Peter Jackson backing it, it might stand a better chance.

I heard about this years ago and it was supposed to star Arnold. I'm curious as to how many writers have had their hands on this. Another one of these movies "designed" by advertisers no doubt. Is id releasing a special edition of the game yet?

The real news is the one I read yesterday...

You know who's slated to make the Halo movie?

Peter Jackson.

I'm not kidding.

Hrm. Just saw the trailer for Doom and I think this review actually sums it up pretty well. I get the feeling that this is one of those films where all the "good" bits are in the trailer...

Oh, yeah. I forgot about that line- it made me laugh. Because a movie is definitely more interractive than a fps game . . .

Maybe they'll hand out squirt guns to the audience...

It amazes me that anyone thought this movie was a good enough idea to bankroll. Fools, money, and all that.

I have to give them a single prop for the chainsaw bit in the trailer. But was the character attacking a Sound Hound (or whatever) from Half Life? That quickly reminds me how the genetic mutation plot is lame, and I take said prop right back.

You might be referring to the new Pinky demon from the Doom 3 video game. The movie seems to be closely following the Doom 3 video game in terms of its sets, costumes, and monsters.

lol, yeah i just read that review and was going to post it here. Personally, i can't see the appeal of paying to watch someone play Doom, or any other computer game for that matter.

There is no way I'd go to see it, but if hypothetically I did, the three fingers on my left hand would probably start twitching and my right would be wondering about over the armrest. Kinda like when you're a passenger in a car and you have a magical brake pedel when there is something going on ahead.
