Who wants to build me a MythTV box?

I miss my Tivo since I sold it and so am looking down the Myth TV route. Unfortunatley I have have a knowledge of Microsoft (I know I know don't hate me).

Would anyone on here have the means to assemble me one. I would of course pay for your time as I know its not the easiest of things to configure and setup.

They are highly recommended. I'm not sure what a MythTV box is, but they can probably help you out.

Building one isn't a problem, it would be no different to a windows box. Configuring the OS and the software on the other hand... that's a much bigger job.

A couple of my ex-colleagues have got the Humax boxes, don't know if they're the exact model you've linked to although I do know that one of them was a dual tuner model. They were very happy with them. I'd probably recommend them over any PC based PVR's to someone who's not familiar with Linux. Plus at those prices, they're considerably cheaper than building a new box to run Myth on.

You might just consider MySetTopBox in conjunction with KnoppMyth the ISO install for MythTV. Could make it easy beans, maybe. I've not done it, but have a friend who is also on the cusp of trying this too. Also they have a forum of users and a KnoppMyth Wiki site for those who are in need.

Overall, It seems to be a pretty good solution if you can get the hardware in the right pile...

I dunno, if he's happy with a Humax then unless he knows a bit about linux I'd say he should steer clear of Myth. What about Window XP MCE? A friend of mine is an absolute computer numpty and he got it working pretty quickly.

I know nothing about the workings of Linux! I also didn't want any entertainment centre to be built on windows.

Fair enough, Humax it is then! I'd see if you can find one to play with first, the one thing I haven't seen is what the OSD and menus look like.
