Fancy empeg remote for $21.95 (Palm IIIx) - 23/12/2005 12:17

MidnightBox.com (woot.com clone) is selling a refurb Palm IIIx for $21.95. I guess this would be acceptable for palantir. I had one of these and I think it had a backlight, which would make it better than the cheap Zire I have now...

So am I the only one who can't get a Palantir database on his Palm? I have like 24000 songs, and I can't sync the database to my Treo, despite having enough memory free to hold it 3 times over.

I'd buy a IIIx if I knew it would work, and just leave it in the car.

I had no problems with palantir on my IIIxe palm. I had around 10000 songs in db at the time. The IIIx has 4mb instead of the 8mb of the IIIxe.

Nice, thanks for the link. Grabbed two actually, one I'll keep for the empeg, the other one as a spare to play with. A Palm III was my first PDA ages back.

Can you copy it to the SD card and use a program like Filez to copy it to internal memory? You're still having problem syncing that one .pdb file, right? How big is it?

I got the units a few days back, and got Palantir working on both. I forgot how slow the Palm III serial syncing was, even when set to 115k. It took over 30 minutes to send the pdb file to the Palm, draining the included batteries down to near zero in the process. To be fair, my pdb is generated from nearly 10,000 tracks. This might not be the best Palm for anyone doing lots of syncs to the empeg.

The Palm does seem to do fine with it so once the file is there, the system requirements are low enough to allow this to be usable. My situation though will probably see little use of it though. I hadn't realised the program only does the selection by artist first, and this really doesn't work well for my particular empeg. Great work though Mark on the program, it looks like a great application for parties and such, or picky passengers.
