How many "New In Box" empegs are there out there? - 11/01/2006 21:51

Since I'm getting ready to buy a second car, I'm considering installing my spare sled in it. But, that sled is part of a "new in box" empeg, so I'd hate to loose that designation by using the sled.

So, I wonder, how many "new in box" empegs are there out there? Still in storage, bought during the fire sale and not sold (likely none), as spares that are never used, etc.

Would I be killing a rare bird by using the sled, or are there plenty? Or does it totally not matter (which it clearly doesn't; I won't get what I paid for it, so it's mine for good, might as well use it)?

For me at this point "New In Box" is a negative, not a positive. I'd much rather have a well cared for one. There were all sorts of little issues that David orginally sorted out for owners as they came up. A "new in box" empeg could have a dead drive, a backlight dimmer capacitor in need of replacing and a sled with a uncrimped upper lip. A well cared for empeg wouldn't have any of these issues.

An uninstalled sled is kind of nice, as it won't have tabs bent out and such, but it's not the end of the world.

There's a fair amount of new, original sleds left here. I also have a fair amount of harnesses, including repaired ones.

Mind you though, why keep it "new in box"? That's like keeping a condom in your wallet. Use it and have fun!

I guess in both cases it depends how much you care about resale value
