U2 video iPod

U2 video iPod - 07/06/2006 06:22

So I'm quite a U2 fan, was absolutely gutted with the postponement of the NZ tour.
With the announcement of the U2 Video iPods,,I'm thinking of getting one, however I don't understand why they don't bring it out in the 60GB capacity, that would make it more of a limited edition, premium product. This capacity is all that's holding me back for putting an order in...

The 30GB iPod outsells the 60GB by a very wide margin. I'd guess far greater than 2:1. It's also thinner and lighter and obviously uses different plastics/enclosure. The popularity of the format was likely the deciding factor. Making a 60GB version would mean additional plastics work and for certain very few sales.

But if I was going to get one, I too would prefer the 60. As it is, I think I'd get one if they made the screen bigger and slapped at least an 80GB drive in it.

If I were a U2 fan who had shelled out for a "special edition U2 ipod" I would be kind of iritated that they continued to come out with more editions. Seems to reduce the speciallness.

Why not some other special edition ipods? The Rolling Stones are the obvious candidate. It'd be great to see a green Green Day iPod.

Then, once they've done a few of those, they can always release a pink breast cancer ipod.

Eh. The whole special edition thing has seemed silly from the begining to me. Lets just go back to white iPods, and add gapless, higherarical playlists, and a full running order editor.

But those features won't make you immediately recognizeable by your iPeers as far superior to the 10 people that don't have an iPod.

I doubt they'll do that, since Apple finally realised that people like black!

I've never thought that the U2 iPod was very attractive. What exactly makes it "U2"? Does U2 have a red/black thing going? I'm not a fan, so I haven't noticed.

Ditto. I've always thought it looked ugly in pictures and in real life. I know people that absolutely love the colour scheme however.

The latest album cover was red and black:

Other than that, I can't tell you.

Still not convinced by this whole ipod thing. I know - we're all spoilt with our empegs, but ipods don't meet any of my requirements for a portable mp3 player, and the video ipod is way behind the curve for portable video devices.

But then I am fairly anti-fashion, so I guess I'm not really the target audience.

[edit] Got my wife a Samsung Yepp - physically tiny, but does everything she needs for music too:-)

Both my wife and I have our Karma's and are completly happy with thim. I see no need for an iPod, and having video does nothing for me. So Karma will be my music machine for quite a while, I think. In fact, right now my commute is so short there are several drm protected songs on my Karma that haven't made it to my empeg yet.

Of course, with one of "our guys" on the inside now and the seeming invitability of iPod taking over the world, I can imagine in a couple of years the iPod having some feature we absolutely have to have, and then I'm going to have to go through the hassel of getting rid of the drm on the songs I'm buying online. What a pain.

My 4Gb Nano meets all my mp3 requirements.

It's small, light, and plays music.

There's always Rockbox on an iPod, which is somewhere between Apple's iPod and a Karma.
