Hi-res photos... - 30/11/2006 20:41

A guy that used to be here at work, and some friends of his, have recently started up a website, showcasing their hi-res gigapixel images: http://www.xrez.com

It uses the google maps API for zooming in/out, and navigation around a photo, and there are some pretty good details on how their shooting process.

It would have been nice to have this rig over Thanksgiving, while I was at the Grand Canyon.

hi-res gigapixel images

Pretty impressive. I can actually read the license plate of the Jeep Liberty stopped at the stoplight in the extreme lower right corner of the picture.

I'm not quite sure what the resolution of the final images are -- they're stitched together from a gazillion photos taken with a Canon DSLR on a motion control rig.

According to the website they're 35000x70000 pixels:

There's some interesting photos on the site about the capture process.
