How do you make yahoo your default email on firefox? i figured this would be an easy to solve problem, but I can't find the answer anywhere.... also, is there a way to make a 'shortcut on desktop' like you can with Internet Explorer?

I don't think there is a setting in the web browser to make a default email client. For gmail they have a program that makes it so clicking on a mail to link takes you to gmail. To make a shortcut just go to the mozilla firefox folder in program files and drag the mozilla firefox file to the desktop.

For the second question, i mean instead of just bookmarking something in internet explorer, you can create a shortcut to the desktop for whatever webpage you are on. But on Firefox, it doesn't look like there is a way to do that, but i am not certain.

To make desktop shortcuts work on Firefox you need to make Firefox the default web browser.

Use "Control Panel->Add or remove programs->Set program access and defaults".

You can make Yahoo your default email provider using an ActiveX control:

http://email.about.com/od/yahoomailtips/qt/et_default_mail.htm

Unfortunately that will only work from within IE though and not within Firefox.

Looks like this might do the same within Firefox:

The problem with the internet shortcuts isn't that firefox won't open them from the desktop, it is that there isn't an option to save them to the desktop with firefox (at least that i have found anyway.)

You can drag the icon immediately to the left of the URL to the desktop (or any other folder, for that matter). I'm not aware of a dialog-based version of that, though.

The icon I'm talking about is, to give you a concrete example, the lightbulb here on the empeg BBS.

You can also drag the title of any tab to the desktop, in the same was the icon next to the URL.

I got another one for ya....you know how in internet explorer, sometimes the window will open up really small. then you just have to drag the corner of the window to make it full size? but that doesn't seem to be working with firefox...it still stays at half the size...does anyone know how to make it so it will be full size again? (i apologize if this doesn't make any sense.)

You can block the resizing of windows with:

Tools/Options/Javascript advanced/allow scripts to... move or resize existing windows

I tried that, but it still does it...

Tabmixplus has an option for it too:

Re: Firefox Questions.... - 25/01/2007 12:30

hmmmm...that doesn't do it either....i think it originally shrunk down the window because of a pop up, but now it just stays that size....

Re: Firefox Questions.... - 25/01/2007 12:42

Re: Firefox Questions.... - 25/01/2007 12:51

Hmm, normally firefox should just remember the size it was when you closed it.
Maybe your homepage has some popup or resize thingy in it?

I tried the a different home page and it still does it....

Re: Firefox Questions.... - 25/01/2007 13:33

I've encountered situations where Firefox never actually exits despite there being no open windows, and that might explain it not remembering the size of the last window closed as it might not realize that it has. After you close the last window, open your task manager and see if Firefox is still running. If it is, kill it.

Re: Firefox Questions.... - 25/01/2007 13:37

I checked and it isn't still running...might there be a smaller sub-program that opens up with firefox?

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=513796

However, on the latter one, it says about how you can 'run' it 'maximized' ,but i don't see that option when i right click it...

Re: Firefox Questions.... - 25/01/2007 14:16

Right-click a shortcut to it, select Properties, open the Shortcut tab, then there's a dropdown box captioned "Run". You can tell it to start maximized from there. It's the same thing as pressing the box icon in the upper-left corner of any window.
