Cracking passwords on zip files

Cracking passwords on zip files - 19/10/2007 16:45

Someone at work has archived a load of stuff into a password-protected zip file. They now can't remember the password. Any pointers to something that could brute-force the p/w overnight?

Several ZIP vendors have their own proprietary encryption. Is it one of those or is it the standard ZIP encryption?

Googling "zip crack" returns a lot of results. AZPR seems likely.

I'm pretty sure it's the just the standard encryption. Other protected files created by the same person can be opened with the Info-ZIP version of unzip on one of my linux boxes.

You got a plaintext? If so then use pkcrack

No, I don't have any of the original files to use as a comparison.

I'd second AZPR - it's not the fastest I've seen, but unless you want to fork out for a good chunk of cash, it does the job.
