Dead, dead, dead

Dead, dead, dead - 24/04/2008 01:25

My entire front lawn is dead. Last year I got the grass filled in and none of it survived the winter it's all gray.

Anyone have any experience with this ? Like can I just till it all in or do I need to remove the dead grass first ? I think I need to till it like crazy and add a ton of compost the dirt is very hard. I should probably do some kind of soil test too I guess.

It is annoying to see grass growing in the ditches with no help and it won't grow in front of my house.

Robert Duvall with a few buds in a Huey. Works every time.

It's possible that you've got something like Kentucky Bluegrass (which is a standard for commercial sod), which isn't exactly native to Minnesota. What you might want to investigate is getting a "native" grass. Not that I have any idea what that means, but it might be worth the trouble.

I have been looking on the U of M website for something else to plant for ground cover. I planted it from seed last spring and bought the seed locally I don't remember what was in the blend but I do remember they all had the same varieties in them.

I actually looked at that last spring I wonder how it would survive the winter. I just need lots of planting beds and pavers smile

I would imagine far better than natural grass. I dunno. I guess they'd have to tell you how frozen it could get with no ill effects.
