Video capture from a flash site?

Video capture from a flash site? - 14/10/2008 19:55

Am looking for a program to capture video that is streamed from a flash site. I've seen em in the past, but never paid any attention to them. Now I'd like to find one. A shareware/free one would be good too...

Do you mean to simply download the FLV file, or to perform framebuffer video capturing?

For the former, look for the firefox plug-in called "DownloadHelper", or about a billion other plug-ins that do exactly the same thing.

Most media players natively understand the FLV format these days, so that's probably what you want.

Well, I'd like to convert to AVI so that I can stream to my 360. I've been playing with DownloadHelper, but so far, have been unable to capture video on the site I'm trying to capture from. YouTube seems to work fine, but not the one I need.

Still working on it. Thanks for the link!

I haven't tried this app yet, but it looks promising.

If I am trying to grab data off an unknown site, I usually use either SmSniff:

http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/smsniff.html (standalone)
or
http://livehttpheaders.mozdev.org/ (Firefox plugin)

Sometimes the FLV video is streamed from a server rather than being downloaded as an FLV over HTTP, I haven't looked into that sort of thing too much, I think it would need special capture software rather than tinkering with a browser/download manager and UserAgent headers.
