Aviton 3.5 inch screen info - 18/10/2008 19:32

I was wondering if anyone can let me know if the Aviton unit would be a good starter Auto GPS? I really don't need a lot of fancy stuff, but I have no idea how to use one either...Do I need special software? Any info apprecatied!

Never heard of the brand. That FatWallet deal sure is cheap.

I'd avoid it, if I were you.

Never heard of Aviton before, but it looks like you can get a refurbished TomTom for the same price, which would probably be a better idea.

You typically don't need any software to use an gps in car navigation device, they tend to be pretty much standalone units (though you can usually upgrade their software, upload new maps and load points of interest data to them via a computer and the software the gps manufacturer supplies).

There are also reburbed Garmins at a similar price point:

Along with Andy and Bitt, I've never heard of that brand before either. It is highly likely that its some obscure rebranded item which means support will be minimal if you get any at all. The UI may or may not be nice to use as well.

I'd go for the refurb TomTom unit personally.
