Google Map question - 02/06/2009 06:51

I'm probably hallucinating, but I seem to remember finding a setting in Google Map that allowed me to change the color of the route line when displaying a map with directions. Maybe I'm confusing that with my GPS unit?

Is there such a setting? When I print out the maps, the blue route line comes out so dark that I can't read the street names underneath the line. Can I make these lines less dark?

- Log in with a Google account.
- When you get the directions, hit "SAVE TO MY MAPS".
- When it's saved to my maps, a whole new host of editing options should theoretically appear in the pop up balloon.

I don't seem to have this option. Perhaps I'm just TSTOAC*.

'Save to maps' is located at the bottom left, under the driving directions.

I just tried what Tony suggested (having never done so before) and found some cool things.
Line style (color, width, and opacity) are available when you click the [/] button at the top right of the balloon.

The option only appears after you have obtained a fresh new set of directions, and, as Robotic mentioned, only at the bottom of the directions list.

Here's an interesting twist on that. The "Save to My Maps" option only appears when you have the "By car" option (as opposed to "Walking" or "Public transit") selected.

Why does that matter, you ask? Because the maps I want to save and print are usually maps for bicycle rides that frequently go places that cars can't. For example, one ride I take uses what they call a "Bicycle Boulevard" in which every few blocks there are barriers that cars can't go through but pedestrians and bicyclists can. This is to keep the neighborhood quiet and not turn the road into a high-speed automobile thoroughfare. Another example crosses a pedestrian bridge across a small stream that requires a long detour if you are in a car.

If you have your Google Mapping set up "By car" you can't force it to map your actual route, whereas "Walking" will allow it. But "Walking" I can't save the map.

Somehow given the state of the world (wars, genocide, economic devastation) I don't think my problem ranks very high, but I did find it interesting.

Definitely report that to them as a bug.

Yeah, right.

Have you ever tried sending a bug report to Google? I suppose it might be possible, but I certainly lack the search expertise to find out how or whom to send it to!

Google does not welcome input from their users.

Yeah, that works.

Several people have already reported the problem.
