Need help with what should be a simple internet search - 17/05/2010 18:16

How hard can this be? I need a list of the Honda automobile dealerships in Guadalajara, Mexico. My '09 Honda Fit needs service (check engine light is on) and I need a Honda dealer.

I sent an email to the official Honda Mexico website, and that will probably bear fruit... eventually. But you'd think there would be an on-line dealership listing. There probably is, and I'm just not smart enough to find it.

edit: OK, I found a few of them, not through a direct internet search but through Google Maps. Should have thought of that in the first place.

For most things local I've started frequently using Google Maps as a starting point, especially in Android. Frequently, even on the PC, corporate websites are horribly designed.

A prime example: go to the Corner Bakery website. Here's where it becomes difficult to defend Flash, when it's used to that extent. Anyway, I've had their own site take me to a place where they didn't have a store. So instead I just used Google Maps.

On the other hand, I've had Google Maps lead me astray. I searched for Target once, and it took me to a residential neighborhood.

Yeah, Google maps is great for that. You just center your view on Guadalajara and type HONDA in the search box. Boom, there's all the pins on the map.

The way to do it with a web search (without having to go to Google Maps first) is to use the keyword "NEAR". So for example, your main Google search would have been:

"honda near Guadalajara, Mexico"

And that would have presented, as its first result, a link taking you to what you already found by searching within Google maps itself.

The website has a dealer search. Are any of these any good?

I think the Colomos Country shop is the one I'll go to. Their location is the easiest to get to (and believe me, when driving in Guadalajara that is not a trivial matter!) and their website is comprehensive enough that I can schedule my appointment on-line. Mi español no es suficiente para hacerlo por teléfono. But I'm working on that, poco a poco.
