Prius Hacking - 03/01/2011 15:14

I know some of you guys have Priuses and might know the answers.

My Dad just bought a 2010 GenIII Prius IV

He'd like to be able to:

Turn off the beeping while in reverse
bypass the "OK" screen on the Nav
Enter navigation addresses while in motion
Any other spiffy hacks

I called Coastal Electronics and they don't make a Lockpick for the GenIII Prius yet. I was wondering if you guys know of any other options for getting rid of these annoyances.

After some more googling, I found this:

Prestigious Society.

$299 seems a bit steep to be able to enter NAV stuff on the go. I could buy a pretty nice Garmin or Tom Tom unit for that.

Hmmm, there was a equipment-less hack to turn off reverse beep on the gen II which I did, but can't find one documented for the genIII (which is a shame, as it bugs me too) frown

I'm all for hacking stuff. But what sort of legal limbo might you wind up in disabling safety stuff in a car?

If it's discovered, of course.

Would you be an easier target for the other side? Could your insurance company refuse to pay a claim, yours or the other side?

Obviously there's a business model to provide the software; I'm sure they have an extensive disclaimer.
