Gaming headsets for PC gaming?

Gaming headsets for PC gaming? - 20/05/2011 12:01

I've got the stock Sony PS3 bluetooth headset, which I find really useful on those rare occasions I'm playing an online game on the PS3.

I'd like to game some more on the PC, so I'm looking for a headset that works with Windows 7. I'm not bothered whether it's wired or wireless, but I'd prefer proper headphones, so that I don't disturb the 1-year old in the next room. Or should I avoid that, because I'll end up shouting?

If it's BT, won't the same headset work in Windows?

Yeah, probably, but that means using a bluetooth adapter and, on further thought, I'm not actually looking for a direct equivalent. I've edited my original post.

Are you looking for something you can use for voice chat or will this headset be used just for playback?

Will you have external speakers supplementing?

I use a "real 5.1" Rokkat Kave. Wired. Audio qualiti is not bad at all. Volume knob, microphone, and real headphones so ppl around you won't be disturbed. Mic can be placed our of the way when not in use. I'd recommend it. Or couse, you can use it as a "simple" stereo, if you wish.

Now, I don't find 5.1 particularly good or beneficial in any headset i've tried, but stil, it is available if you ever need it.

In the end, I opted for the Corsair HS1 headset. It got pretty good reviews, and was roughly in the right price range. It sounds pretty good, but I've not actually tried the microphone yet. Anyone fancy some co-op Portal 2 this evening? wink
