E Ink devices with Google Apps

E Ink devices with Google Apps - 20/01/2017 22:25

My daughter is dyslexic and finds e ink devices work much better for her (much more than backlit lcd - whether tablet or PC).

She needs to be able to install various google apps (gmail, drive, docs, sheets, etc) for school work - support for google play or a work-around that gets the apps installed is a must.

Anyone have experience with any devices like this, or other ideas? We've found a few just googling around, but they all run old android (which we may settle for), and we have no idea the relative merits of them.

I'm willing to poke at it a bit to make it work, though I'm not too experienced poking at android.

If there's good linux support for google apps, we could try that way, too though I'm even less well versed there...

thanks,

John

Is it the backlighting that is the problem?

There is a category of LCD that is front illuminated or just uses ambient light (sunlight, room lighting) to make the screen readable. These LCD are often found in displays that must be used outdoors. Perhaps there is an outdoor oriented LCD tablet that could fit your requirements?
