Flat mode is your friend.

Flat mode is your friend. - 27/11/2001 15:12

Just wanted to suggest to anyone who needs to rip through BBS posts quickly: Flat mode is your friend.

If you're on a high-speed connection, you can set your profile to do flat mode, plus have it show 99 posts at once (the maximum allowed setting). This lets you read threads very fast with a minimum of clicking.

Just remember to reply to the appropriate post so that those who still read things threaded will see your reply in the proper place.

It'd be nice if there was a mode combining threaded and flat. I prefer to read in flat, but it can be hard to sort out the threads.

but it can be hard to sort out the threads.

The trick is to always read all the new posts every day and not let them get ahead of you. Something that is helpful is when people include a brief highlighted summary of what they are replying to.

But Tony is right -- especially when you are on a slower dial-up connection -- you can go through all the posts in a fraction of the time it takes to do it in threaded mode.

Comes handy when one returns from a three-day business trip (without a laptop) and then the damn BBS code decides to mark posts worth an hour of reading as new twice!
