Id3 tag Renamer

Id3 tag Renamer - 29/12/2001 10:26

I am looking for a good program to redo, in bulk, all Mp3 Id3 tags. The program will need to read the existing tag and either replace or update all the necessary information from either gracenote.com or other comparable music database.

The original program I used to rip the music to Mp3 only had support to create "title" "artist" and "album" info from gracenote. Now I want to add other necessary information without reripping all CD's, a daunting task when you have over 40gb of Mp3's...

Any suggestions?

Unfortunately, the only two remaining tags (Year and Genre) are usually missing from Gracenote. And even when it's there, the genre is almost always wrong. I've even seen the Year be wrong in many cases.

There is a feature in MusicMatch which will do something like what you want, only better. It will use the AMG database instead of Gracenote to look up the information. It is described here.

I must say, the Mp3-Tag Studio program is the best Id3 tagger I have used. I recoded ALL 35gb of Mp3 Id3v1 and v2 tags last night with correct album, title, artist info, year and genre tags. It took only 6 hours.

I looked up all info from allmusic.com database and what I could not find I dug through the boxes of CD's. (It was like digging through old boxes of 8-trax looking for Eagles but that is another story all together...)

Another small and convenient program is Mp3EXT you right click directories of mp3's (Entire artists) and select properties. And you can apply the year & genre to ALL of them and artists. It writes both ID3v1 and v2 tags. It also gives you info such as bitrate, song length, etc.
