"Top Threads" listing

"Top Threads" listing - 09/01/2002 08:30

I think the new "Top Threads" thing at the top of every page on the BBS is annoying and useless to me, and I'd like to turn it off. I couldn't find an option in the display preferences to do so. Does anyone really like it?

Nope.

If anyone does, could it be made configurable? I for one would configure it off.

I find it annoying as well. unless your resolution is set waaaaaay up, it's going to move all the posts to "scroll territory".

Configurable would be good, or at least maybe some way to make it less intrusive. Maybe a more horizontal approach?

Plus, does anyone know what makes them "Top Threads"? Is it the number of posts in each, the frequency of posts, the recentness

I don't really care I just want the damn thing disabled. :)

So the voting so far is 4-0 for dropping the Top Threads listing.

Re: "Top Threads" listing - 09/01/2002 08:57

it would be cool if it listed the most recently updated threads that you have viewed... and limited it to 3 ....and listed it horizontally...

Actually, i ignore all of those threads because they are like 7 pages long!

Count me in. This "feature" blows.

Yet this BBS rules, so I don't want to seem too ungrateful.

So thanks, but no thanks?

Word. I'm up for anything that increases the ease of use of the BBS, but I think the top threads thing just takes up space. Maybe move it to its own page with a little link at the top or something.

Yeah, I'm new here but that doesn't mean I can't dislike something

I'm with the rest of you.

BBS = Great
Top Threads = Not so great

Another vote against - just takes up valuable space.

Re: "Top Threads" listing - 09/01/2002 10:39

Let's say it didn't take up as much verticle space, or lingered more at the bottom of the page instead of the top.

It should definitely look at your own preferences for flat or threaded views.

I think it's cute, but not quite usable for me. Someone suggested threads that you've recently visited (or posted to) with new posts ... that might be pretty good.

Yeah it don't look right to me

Re: "Top Threads" listing - 09/01/2002 11:29

Moving it to the bottom is a good compromise. It'd be just that much less we'd have to scroll through.

Re: "Top Threads" listing - 09/01/2002 11:33

Nah I don't want it contributing to my page load time. I'd rather just have it on/off configurable or on a separate page (instead of on *every single page*.)

Anything that makes me scroll more than I have to is not a good thing!

Wow. I'm gone for just the night and I totally miss this whole fiasco. Obviously, I need to keep myself jacked in when asleep. Maybe I can process the information in my dreams.

Yeah it's like a soap opera in that regard, ain't it...

I dunno about any of the other regulars here, but I already do. (Raise your hand if you've had a BBS-related dream.)

Yea, what he said. I haven't seen it. But then I read posts in linear mode.

Re: "Top Threads" listing - 09/01/2002 21:34

It obviously came and went by the time you guys returned to the BBS. It was a big ugly table at the top of every page on the BBS. Let us not talk of it again, ever. :)

You silly European guys ... don't you know you should be awake when the sun is up? I mean gosh ... that stuff happened all day and you guys were taking naps or something. You mean you're just now getting up? It's already 11:45pm. What a bunch of night-owls you guys are, burning the midnight oil!

Why do I get the feeling you regard that as one of life's painful experiences, Tony?

Given the number of similar posts about it (in two forums, no less) I believe I was not alone in this regard.
