My new dream car

My new dream car - 13/02/2002 15:19

Well, I've always been in love with the '68 Mustang GT500, the '68 Stringray 427, and the TVR Speed12, but man oh man I've found a new beast to attract my attention.

http://www.audiworld.com/news/02/rs6/

450bhp, twin turbo 4.2L V8. This and some of those 19" meats would look mighty nice in my parking spot.

Who says you need to buy a house before you get a hot-rod?

Problem is, where do I put the Empeg?

Paddle shifters for the Tiptronic = good, but I still want a 6-speed with a clutch!

As if I have to worry about this decision!

I feel certain that the Corvette Z06 has a clutch pedal. (I assume you mean a clutch pedal. )

Yes, I should state my dream car desires more completely:
I want a clutch, with a pedal, and with a real stick!

Actually guys, my dream car is sitting in the drive outside my house!!!!!

Re: My new dream car - 13/02/2002 18:19

Funny, somehow I get the idea that you're a little excited about this!

(My own definition for dream car includes the condition that i'll never be able to afford it! It's that old lusting-for-what-you-can-never-have thing! Read: Porsche 959, AC Cobra, etc...)

Car looks great. Silver rules. Not available here, I don't think. Look forward to diagrams of your AUX-in navigation. Drive safely!!

The specs look good but they lost it when feature creep took over. I prefer a spacious cabin with few distractions. Although it looks very nice I'm sure it would be too "busy" for my taste. One of my favorite things about the empeg is that it has only 4 four buttons and a knob. Can't get much more simple!

Don't forget about the 24 button remote.

The 4 buttons and a knob might have worked fine with the v1.0 software but now that we're on the edge of 2.0 and with hijack at 200, 4 buttons and a knob isn't enough. :-(

Re: My new dream car - 14/02/2002 13:19

Yeah, Dream Car means unless you win the lottery, you're not getting it.

Like a $250,000 Ferarri Maranelo ... 480hp

In my case, the only way I could afford the $100,000 (guessing) RS6 is if my wife is still an attorney by the time I finish law school (5 yrs), and assuming we've bought a house. And assuming I could convince her I wouldn't kill myself driving it around.

Naturally 450hp isn't quite enough for me. I'd need to add a couple of extra stages on it and probably NOS. Hrmmm.... 700hp with leather interior and an empeg. Homer likey!

From the website:

"Performance

quattro permanent four-wheel drive and a version of the tiptronic five-speed automatic transmission that has been specially refined for the RS 6 convert the V8 biturbo's high torque into propulsive power with impressive efficiency and directional stability. The Audi RS 6 sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 4.9 seconds, and hits the 200 km/h mark after 18 seconds. The top speed is governed smoothly at 250 km/h by electronic means."

Man, that 0--200 km/h speed is only five seconds (about 40%) slower than accurasquirrel's Integra. (see here.)

Re: My new dream car - 14/02/2002 16:47

What's a 911's 0-100k/mh? I think it's around 4.5.

And accurasquirrel was using nitrous for that 0-200. I bet a couple of pounds of boost on that twin-turbo v8 would knock those high numbers down a fair bit.

Of course, there's no way I'll ever know about it.

It must be all the damn cupholders!!

Hmmm, I wonder how this compares to the smaller, lighter V6 RS4 Avant that I lusted after once...? Also, I do like the way the A/S/RS6 looks, but I still like the last-generation A4 a bit better, especially duded up as the RS4

(uh, found my answer: 4.9 and 17.0 seconds. It *is* the cupholders!)

Re: My new dream car - 17/02/2002 16:03

Yeah that V6 RS4 looked real nice. But you could get two or three Legacy GTB wagons for that price here. If only subaru didn't limit their cars to 206Kw, i'm sure a factory twin turbo 3.0 litre flat 6 STi imprezza would outperform the audi.

And i've never been one to pay extra for snob value.

I agree. That's why I'd never buy ANY audi. Take BMW instead. Even prefered by the bavarian police, which can choose between both bavarian brands
//M5 instead of RS6 is just an option...

Well I can't say much about Audis and BMW's but I have to say my dream car is the Viper Venom 650.
0-60mph (0-100km/h for you european guys) in 3.2
Top Speed 215 mph
All Street Legal, no turbos, no NOS and still out corners everything on the market except for maybe a Porsche 911 turbo, where I beleive its almost dead even

Re: My new dream car - 19/02/2002 14:19

I think of a Viper as a straight line machine. I heard Vipers oversteer and spin out whenever a breeze blows on the side of one.

Re: My new dream car - 19/02/2002 14:44

The problem with a viper is as quoted "A Street Legal Race car" it is a combination of vehicle control and self control to drive one to its fullest. I have not heard any complaints of oversteer in the newer models, besides to not have drastic oversteer seems to me a great accomplishment when taking into part the size and weight of the engine

Ford is going to build the GT-40!

Story broke some time today.

Ford is going to build the GT-40!

I might be one of the few people on the BBS who excitedly built a 1/24 spy-shot model (AMT?, Revell?, I can't remember) of the GT-40 MkIV *before* it won Le Mans (again) in, what, 1967?

That is one seriously sexy car. It looks like they're staying true to the orignal. I have just *got* to win Lotto if I'm going to squeeze that baby in next to the 959 and the Cobra in my fantasy garage!

I looked, but couldn't find the story at that link. Am I blind, or just getting senile? (Probably both, actually...)

Oops... they moved it. When I posted the story, it was a "web-exclusive." The story was a few hours old. They own www.auto.com and moved it here. Hope you enjoyed browsing recent Detroit events.

The car is a supercharged two-seater with a 500-horsepower V8 engine.

Re: My new dream car - 20/02/2002 15:12

That indeed is a very sweet car, does anybody remember the monstrosity of the GT90 concept car that ford came out with a few years back? a v12 made out a v8 plus half of another and 4 turbos?
