Rio Music Manager fails!

Rio Music Manager fails! - 18/10/2003 11:09

I was considering the Rio Karma 20GB since it plays flac files so I downloaded the Rio software (Rio Music Manger) to get a feel for it. It searched my music directory and found all the flac files and added them to its library. However, it only read part of the tags. It got artist and genre but album, track number, and year are blank. Also, instead of title it has the file name without the extension. Since I use EAC for ripping, the flac front-end for encoding, and Tagger (FLAC tags) for tagging based on filename scheme, improper tag pickup will be a BIG problem. Does anyone have any idea why this would not be working correctly?

Greetings!

Hmm... Haven't seen problems with reading FLAC tags before. Let me see if anyone else has... (posting to beta board)

Meanwhile, is this the same with all of your FLAC files? Some? Any pattern that you can see? Any information you have might help us track this down. Thanks!

I attempted to set EAC to encode FLAC but don't see the option.

Do i need to install something special for it to read it? I see LPAC, Monkey, SHN, RKAU for loseless

Inform me how to set up EAC to do FLAC and I'll run a few tests and pass the info on to the beta team.

It found all the flac files on my HD and not a single file's tag was read correctly. It also found a few WMA files which were read perfectly.

I don't encode directly from EAC. Here is what I do:
1. Rip album to WAV via EAC.
2. Use the front-end included with flac to encode WAV to flac.
3. Use Tagger (which is a front-end for tag.exe) to tag the flac file taking information from the strucure of the file and directories. (Artist - Genre/Album - Year/Track Number - Track Title.flac)

Hope that helps.

No, but I'll look into it on Monday.

All my FLAC files are compressed from EAC with the options in this post. RMM and my Karma have no problems with the tagging. Everything is perfect.

Tagger (http://tagger.boereck.de/)
OK, that problem should be fixed in the next release of RMM. Thanks for the detailed report!

WOW! That was quick. Just curious, what was the problem? And when is the next release scheduled?

The next release (2.40 ish) will be going RC very soon, and I believe the target release date is somewhere around the second week of November.

Can you please tell me what the issue was? I am trying to decide how to tag my files going forward. I tried encoding and tagging directly from EAC and it's not a bad solution. Especially since I can use foobar to apply replaygain values afterward. Why do the tags created by EAC work but not the tags created by tag.exe?
