Aaargh! Karma is stuck "communicating" - 24/11/2003 18:15

I was updating my Karma in the cradle (Just added a couple songs) and upon exiting Rio MM the "communicating" message is still displayed on the screen. I can't get this to go away and I can't even turn it off!! What do I do, just leave it out of the cradle and wait 10 days for the battery to die? I haven't noticed any kind of "reset" button.

A small paper clip will fit in the hole at the bottom of the unit. GENTLY insert a paperclip and press the hidden reset button. It's pretty deep in there.

And go grab the 1.25 software from the www.rioaudio.com site, as well as the latest version of RMM. It fixes a bunch of the hang-up bugs, one of which may very well have been the root of your problem.

Phew! That did the trick. I was surprised how far in the paperclip had to go! I was scared I would make my Karma FUBAR. Downloading new firmware now.

Ok firmware won't update. The progress bar completes and a message comes up "update unsuccessful, cyclic redundacy error"
Now what?
I already have v1.11 on player if that helps.

EDIT:
All is well. After I reset the player I didn't re-sync it in the cradle first. I did that and the firmware updated fine.
Thanks for your help on the reset.

After a crash on the "communicating" screen, it's a good idea to use the Troubleshooting->Rescan option, in case some of your stored music didn't make it into the database.
