Bad Karma Software???? - 29/04/2004 16:23

In December I purchased a Rio Karma. It has been working great until recently. When I try and open the Rio Music Manager, a pop-up appears and says that its has encountered a problem and whether it should send or dont send. I uninstalled my Rio software, then reinstalled it. It still happens. And i updated it also, and still the same thing. What should i do?

Greetings.

Hm... That is a new one by me. I didn't even know that RMM had that feature built into it. Can you post the error message you see with any details? Also, who is it trying to send (the error details via email) to?

It could be something about a bad MP3 file that it's scanning. Did you recently add any MP3 files to the folders that it's got in its library?

but how would i be able to tell which one?
Divide and conquer. Take all the ones you added recently, and move them to a different place on your hard disk, a place that the Rio software doesn't scan.

Then, if the Rio software works, move half of them back. If it still works, move half of what's left back. Etc. It should only take a few tries to locate the exact file that it's choking on (if, in fact that's the problem... I'm not saying it is for sure.).

When you find the file (if it is a problem with one file), it's likely something unusual about the file itself. For instance, something corrupted in the file or something odd in its ID3 tags. Once you find the file, it would be nice to post here what you find out about it because that would be helpful to the software people so that they could correct the problem in future release of the Rio software.

Re: Bad Karma Software???? - 29/04/2004 18:09

Something else that might be choking it is a bad version of some MP3 encoder codec. Did you recently install any new Windows codecs or codec packs?

Re: Bad Karma Software???? - 29/04/2004 18:14

I didnt install ay codecs..Im sure...other than the mp3 theory you have, i dont know. I download a few mp3's daily. But i know it's not a codec.

Re: Bad Karma Software???? - 29/04/2004 18:37

it is Windows.... it says..."Rio Music Manager has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." ans then "If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost. Please tell Microsoft about this Problem. We have created an error report that you can send to us. We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous." and then..."the following files wil be included in this error report: C:\DOCUME~2\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER1281.tmp.dir00\appcompat.txt"

I didn't even know that RMM had that feature built into it.

It doesn't. This is (as explained below) the Windows Error Reporting wizard thingummy.

Re: Bad Karma Software???? - 30/04/2004 04:40

Is it possible to post a copy of that file to the BBS?

Re: Bad Karma Software???? - 30/04/2004 12:54

Post a copy of which file to BBS? The ERROR message?

Re: Bad Karma Software???? - 30/04/2004 12:56

I took all of my mp3's out of my music folder which RMM scans, thinking that the cause was maybe a corrupted file, and the same thing still happens. The problem still remains.

Re: Bad Karma Software???? - 30/04/2004 13:04

Okay, so it's not an MP3 file.

At this point, do the following:

- Deinstall Rio Music Manager, Rio Taxi, and Rio Internet Update using the add/remove programs feature in the Control Panel.

- Delete the Program Files\Rio folder from the hard disk.

- Clean out all of your temporary folders completely and clear your web browser cache.

- Use Ad-Aware and a virus scanner to make sure you have no spyware or viruses.

- Download the latest version of Rio Music Manager from the rioaudio.com web site and install it. See if it works.

Re: Bad Karma Software???? - 30/04/2004 14:01

okay, I deinstalled Rio, deleted everything out of all my temporary and cache folders, scanned my computer with Nortan Anti-Virus (no viruses) and scanned it with Ad-Aware and deleted the spyware programs. I the downloaded the current Rio software from the website. And Still i get the same thing. Do you think that this could be because of conflicting files??

Re: Bad Karma Software???? - 30/04/2004 14:10

Okay, that error message points to a text file on your hard disk. Can you post that file?

Re: Bad Karma Software???? - 01/05/2004 02:09

You should also delete the C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Rio\Rio Music Manager directory when removing Rio Music Manager completely.

Re: Bad Karma Software???? - 01/05/2004 08:36

Oooo yeah, thanks for that tip. Perhaps it's a bad piece of data in there that's crashing him? Maybe all he needs to do is delete that and restart RMM?

Re: Bad Karma Software???? - 02/05/2004 13:53

ok....i can't find the local settings or application data foldercan you give me the steps to getting there?

Re: Bad Karma Software???? - 03/05/2004 02:52

The Local Settings folder is hidden: you'll need to turn on hidden folders, or type the path in directly.
