I can't even stand to read the Riovolution forums anymore. It really puts into perspective how nice these forums are.

There's nothing quite as funny as unengendered abuse. Just call me Walter Sobchak: "Shut the fuck up, Donny."

Indeed.
The only reason I check them is to find out if anyone has a 512 mb forge yet.

I dont know why everyone is so obsessed with Mass storage.

I don't mind people wanting new firmwares, etc, but it's really turned nasty over there ... It seems like every day there's another thread where people are just yelling at eachother. It's become too annoying to try to look through the yelling topics to find people who are asking legit questions. It's unfortunate because taking the forum in that direction hurts everyone on it.

I gave up on them about 3 days after I started. Didn't find it hospitable, but then I never really tried, I guess. My wife gets the Karma most of the time and given that I got busy and so haven't picked up a bike yet I never got a second for myself. At this point the "next thing" will come out before I need one, so might as well wait.

I realised a while ago, while getting pulled into a flamewar, that most of the folks that appeared to be a bit backward/obnoxious/loud were in fact 15 years old and acting like perfectly normal teenagers. You can feel a bit silly when, after engaging in a heated discussion with someone about software releases, you then notice that their next post is to ask for help with their homework.

Were I to fall off my skateboard after school and break my Nitrus I suppose it is reassuring that I would have somewhere to vent.

While I don't normally go to riovolution, their karma FAQ is pretty handy. Case in point: convincing me to unstick the drive head on my karma today. It seems that at first I simply was not hitting it hard enough - a frightening concept.

It's playing back mp3s again, after a terrifying few minutes of clicking and whirring. I wasn't looking forward to replacing the hard drive. Or was I? Hmm.

If you want, I'll trade you for mine with a dead hard drive and you can replace that!

I wonder if it hurts the image of Rio portables as well. I read somewhere that Apple was working to create a bond between their iPod customers. What was the term... "shared brand experience" or something. If the "shared brand experience" of Rio is yelling teenagers, I'd hate to see potential customers frightened away.

It's odd how I'm constantly worried about Rio's share in the HDD-based MP3 portables market. I'm constantly comparing them (purely on marketing and physical aesthetics) to iPods to see how Rio could do better... though I've never used either and really don't know much about the subject at all. I'd just hate to see Rio trampled since they are the original (as far as I know; PMP300).
