New iPod, with color screen and better battery life

iPod Photo. About the same size as the Gen 4 units, color screen, iPhoto syncing and photo viewing on the screen. Also has an AV dock to show photos on a TV. Lastly, it actually has 15 hours of claimed battery life, nearing the 16 of the Karma.

Base unit is 40gb and $500, the 60 gig is $600. So, $100 above the normal iPod 40 for a color screen.

I have a feeling that Rio has a secret weapon ready to pull out of the bag.

I reserve judgment on that, remember I was at Amserfort this summer and put it this way, Apple almost have my business after seeing the screen on that, with 15 hours battery life Rio will have to work very hard to keep my business in the future.

Look at what has happened to the Karma, no firmware releases, no remote etc.. and I don't think we will. At least with the iPod all that is already there.

COME ON RIO!!!! Don't make me buy an iPod!!!!

PS - I know any iPod isn't going to play music as well as the Karma, but the new iPhoto looks like a nice alround product, and I would like to back-up my CF while on the road, what are the chances of Rio every coming up with an aftermarket adaptor? None! if going by previous experience.

TV out is actually possible without the dock, via its new "headphone" jack. I guess they have a cable that has audio/video just like they did for their previous iBooks.

If the next Rio device support Mass Storage class, you can buy a third-party adapter that will let you connect your camera directly to the player (already available)

Cris, you didn't like what we saw at Amersfoort? I thought it was "rather 21st century", as I usually say. I might make that my first mp3 portable when it comes out. Now if only it (and other Rios) conformed to a simple snappy naming scheme in order to further solidify brand recognition. ::sigh:: I'm always looking out for Rio's market share, though there's not much I can do about it.

Saw what at Amersfort?

I recently had a go on my uncles Archos 440, kinda changed my outlook on what a portable device means to me. Of course I have no idea what Rio have up their sleves, but however good it is, I think the competition has hotted up since I last looked at the market.

I have been bitten once before by Rio (think Riot ) and I think I am about to be bitten by the Karma, next time company back up with extras and file system choice will come before some "cool" but hardly ever used function.
