Hi everyone!

I've decided to branch out in the field of portable music players and get myself the only portable with an interface I knew would be good enough: the Karma. After using the Mark I for so many years, one gets bored of just one CD, you know?

Anyway, my only real question is is there any way to remotely control it? It's for an obscure hobby of mine which I'm sure no-one would have ever suspected I have: I teach Irish Set Dancing. I've been using the car player connected to my PA system to play music, and the ability to stop and start the music from somewhere else in the room has been invaluable. I'd also like to know if the Karma has some way of quickly selecting playlists similar to the Rio Car's PIN system. If these would work from the same credit card remote as I have with the Mark I then this would be fantabulosa!

Have fun,

Paul

Unfortunately, there's no way to remote control the Karma. They built the interface connections for a remote into the design, but never developed an actual remote. The player firmware hasn't got any features that would respond to one, even if one existed.

..although if you were to cut the tracks to the remote control header and route the debug port up there - instant serial interface (albeit TTL). I believe the connector is used by certain Sony products, so it should be possible to get one, even if you cut it off another product.

This is not for the faint hearted, though.

Yeah. The plug from my Sony Minidisc remote fits into the socket on the Karma.

I was under the impression from a post on the Riovolution forums that the debug port is disabled on release Karma builds. Is this not the case?

I thought it still responded to commands but I could be wrong. I've no way of checking - a Rio person would have to comment.
