I believe they should be out in the UK quite soon (I'm not sure if that's a marketing soon or a real soon).

Anyway - yes - I happen to know that there are several of these in the Cambridge vicinity

Rob, thanks for the help!

A surprise that they are all in Cambs though! - can you see them all from your desk?

I rather fancy getting my hands on one here in the UK. Its the Dell one for me as it looks cheaper and I already have Ethernet so don't need the phone network stuff. Anyone found a UK supplier, or a USA web site that will do a UK order ?

I imagine that the dell one is only going to be available via Dell, no sign of any mention of it on their website though - the audio section mentions the 'HipZip' but nothing else.

Rio seem only interested in US sales at the moment, so I think that the only way to actually get one is to mug a passing ex-empegger....

If you do find a site, please let me know - I'm still waiting for one!

Cheers,

Paul.

WOW! I notice that the price is down to $199.00, and that includes your choice of a 10/100 desktop card, a 10/100 notebook card, or an HPNA card.

Way to go, Dell!

Gumble, grumble, grumble.

I'd just order one from the US, but I'm not sure about voltage, etc....

This is just getting stupid - I can't by anything from Rio in the UK..... empeg-car included.

It certainly does :
$199 for the dell
$349 fro the rio

Has the rio got a golden volume-knob or something?
I presumed the hardware is identical, so why this huge price-difference?

Double check me, but i'm pretty sure the $149 price is only if you order it with a Dell system...otherwise it's $199. And off the top of my head, i don't recall seeing a Voltage switch, but i'll double check that tonight.

Re: Anyone in the UK *actually* got one yet? - 10/04/2001 02:04

The PSU is auto-ranging 100-240v. It's fully approved for europe, too - CE marked & so on. PNA2.0 is also approved for use on EU telephone systems, I believe.

The $349 Rio price includes a PCI HPNA2.0 card, without the card it's $299 (the old price of the Dell).

Now, I'd buy one from the US Dell site - but it won't let me enter a non-us address.

I give up.

This isn't really surprising, as the product hasn't been launched in the UK yet. I hope it won't be long before it is.

Why does it need to be "launched" in the UK. I have bought loads of stuff from the US via web orders.

Loren,

Thanks for the offer - whatcha think it'll cost in shipping? The last time I had something shipped from CA it cost me nearly $100! (and I *know* that I was not getting the best deal).

Cheers,

Paul.

i have no idea what it would cost. The box for the reciever i got couldn't have been more than 5 lbs., so ... quick estimate at UPS.com says something like $75.

Too right. Sometimes companies need reminding what the first two 'WW's in 'WWW' mean.
