JReceiver is a servlet-based host for Digital Audio Receivers. The initial release targets support for the Rio Receiver
from Sonic Blue, but its ongoing development is intended to extend towards
other products, including homebrew systems as well. It is an open-source

SWEET.
Question... I don't know much about servlets... if someone was running a Windows server, would this be able to run in the background, as a service, without the need for a login?

this is in the readme for jetty 3.0 :
These instructions describe how to run Jetty from a win32 platform from
the console and as a service.
I think it needs java VM installed first...

This is what I was dreaming of. I run Red Hat and am looking for instructions on how to implement this. I'm a casual Linux user, otherwise I would try myself. Any Ideas?

Win32 is definitely a target platform for the Java host and should work with the alpha release. The problem is figuring out how to configure the various services and documenting the install much as I've done for Debian Linux.
I'm working on the alpha and won't have time to document again at least until it's feature-complete for beta. But if someone does this, it'll be posted to the jreceiver_user group at groups.yahoo.com.

Any platform which supports a VM equivalent to JRE 1.2 or higher can run JReceiver. This includes RedHat Linux.
Once someone writes an install tutorial for Redhat, it'll first appear on the jreceiver_user group at groups.yahoo.com.
All install tutorials are targeted for casual users as yourself.

Summary of changes:
Struts/JSP content generation framework
Search button on remote supported.
User authentication disabled for now.
Directory browser.
Many other changes. Still in Alpha. Haven't keep track of them all.

No installer is planned, mostly because there are too many variables (many platforms, many servlet engines, many databases, need NFS, need DHCP, etc.)
The installation tutorials (like the rio_debian_install.txt and its forthcoming brethern) will have to suffice I'm afraid. Such is the nature of ultra-flexible open-source software.

Thanks, was just seeing if worth waiting for an installer. Looks like I should get my finger out and have a go at installing it
