inverting the LCD

Has anyone tried to invert the LCD so that it is more readable in the dark? If so, how successful was it?

I'm sure it could be inverted with a kernel hack pretty easily.

Although I don't think that would improve readability... About the only thing that improves readability on that thing is jamming your face directly up against the LCD...

I wasn't referring to any software hack.

I was thinking something more like this hardware hack.
